Multidisciplinary treatment of massive trichobezoar-caused an acute gastric outlet obstruction

Introduction. Trichobezoars presents a rare form of bezoar made swallowed hair, with clinical manifestation gastric or intestinal obstruction, ulceration, bleeding, and perforation. It is predominantly found in emotionally disturbed mentally retarded youngsters, who eating their own hair which clinically known as trichophagia. Patients often deny makes diagnosis difficult. Case report. We are presenting case acute outlet obstruction caused by giant trichobezoar long thin 20-year young female. Although patient had history trichophagia, she didn't think her behavior was unusual has not been treated before. Followed initial diagnostic procedures, exploratory laparotomy indicated. After anterior gastrotomy performed, massive stomach-shaped removed. Postoperatively psychiatric consult exam. She recovered well discharged without complications. referred for further follow-up. Conclusion. non-digestible collections that usually accumulates stomach can extend to small bowel, causing mechanical injury such hollow viscus obstruction. require urgent removal the trichobezoar, preserve avoid further, catastrophic consequences.
